Teaching Responsibilities
I coordinate and lead teaching on the following modules
LSC 105 Landscape Processes. This module analyses a unit of landscape to discover how physical, ecological and cultural factors combine to produce distinctive character, and investigates how that character can be exploited as a basis for developing design language.
LSC 203 Basic Landscape Ecology. This module discusses the basic principles of ecology as applied to landscape design and introduces a biotope approach to understanding landscape structure and planting
LSC 302 Ecological Design. This studio project looks in detail at the ecological approach to establishing and maintaining ecological landscape vegetation, and focuses on the design of a site to benefit both people and habitat.
LSC 305 Restoration and revegetation of contaminated and derelict land
LSC 6050 Ecological Design. Postgraduate equivalent of the preceding two modules, focusing on taking an ecological approach to regeneration of urban greenspace
LSC 501 Urban Landscape Planning. This module examines contemporary issues in urban sustainabilty. It focuses on the value of greenspace as a key to urban regeneration, and the development of urban greenspace strategies, with particular emphasis on community involvement in that regeneration.
LSC 412 Research Methods in Landscape. A module delivered as part of the University Research Training Programme
I contribute teaching to the following modules:
LSC 101 Introduction to landscape design
APS 203. Four lectures on plant community ecology
APS 314. Sheffield-based ecological field course
Special Design Project for MA2/LD5
Detailed planting and construction. Lectures on vegetation strategies
Housing Design. Lectures on sustainable residential environments.
